The Cheviot (OH) Fire Department recently took delivery of an HME 78-foot aerial. Built on a custom HME Spectr chassis and MFDxl cab with a 500-hp Cummins engine and Allison 4000 EVS transmission, the 4x2 “smart” aerial combines a Hale Q-Max 2,000-gpm pump with HME Hydra Technology™. The truck also features double frame rails, an aluminum tilt cab, LED interior lighting, FireCom intercom system, Lang Mekra heated mirrors, and seating for a crew of six. Additionally, this aerial features a 24-inch extended bumper with a center hose well; five-inch front suction; gravelshield-mounted federal Q2B siren; stainless steel piping, panels, framework, and galvanized outriggers; roll-up doors; 202 cubic feet of compartment storage space; shelving, trays, and toolboards throughout; Whelen LED warning light package; NFPA-compliant ladder group; 78-foot three-section ladder; a two-sided turntable; and an Akron tip monitor.
