Tanker Apparatus
Getting water to a fire where hydrants are scarce is a critical task and HME rises to the occasion. With the same precision engineering and rugged construction found in all HME apparatus, these units are capable of carrying up to 3000 gallons of water efficiently. With safety a primary concern HME designs these heavy haulers with a center of gravity that assures stability and agility full, empty or in-between. Baffled per NFPA we've taken extra steps in design to allow installation of high volume dumps on the side or at the rear. Available with manual, air or electric actuation they put the water where you want it, every time. Front suction, rear suction, direct tank inlets - you're be the boss; tell us what you need! Storage for ladders and portable tanks can be provided in any number of different configurations - truly convenient, truly custom in the HME tradition. Side mount or top mount controls, option packages galore.

Our unique bolted body design eliminates the need for heavy, old-fashioned body mounts that needlessly add to the weight on a typical apparatus. The low maintenance virtues of brushed stainless steel makes painting the body unnecessary. Our bolted bodies are easy to repair and HME makes all parts and panels easy to get. Everything part is assigned a number and your individual apparatus is archived at HME to assure that replacement parts for your apparatus are easily available; promptly. This all adds up to a cost-effective apparatus - now and in the future; something you can count on from HME!

Mounted on any of the HME 1871 Series Custom Chassis, these sturdy tandem tankers offer an unmatched degree of performance and maneuverability in any situation. Engines from Caterpillar, Detroit Diesel and Cummins provide the power you need; HME engineering supports this with a steering cramp angle up to 52-degrees that can take you where you need to go, smoothly and promptly. HME offers a variety of rear suspensions including Hendrickson "spring" or "rubber load", Chalmers "Loadguard" or Air suspensions to handle the load effectively. Combinations of chassis options offer you the ability to build your tanker the way you want it - the way you need it.

In many cases a "Commercial" tanker may meet your needs. HME provides quality chassis from IHC, Freightliner and Kenworth. Ordered to strict HME criteria these tankers provide the same features as those on HME Custom Chassis - and at a competitive price. HME goes further than most by providing the Class 1 Es-Key® electrical management system standard on the chassis too! The best in control and diagnostics, Es-Key® brings your HME Commercial Tanker to the head of the class in value. Available as two or four door units, popular chassis options have been made available to allow you choice. And we don't stockpile chassis; they're built specifically to your order.

It's just one more reason why at HME, We Are The Truck People.

"I just wanted to send you this note and tell you how pleased we are with the new addition to our Fire Department family. Last year we purchased a 109 foot Aerial Ladder from HME. This was the first new purchase for a vehicle of this type in the departments 50 year history. Since getting "Ladder-1" it has been both a source of pride as well as a valuable tool for protecting our community.

From the very beginning of the process, we knew a Quint type of unit would fit our needs. The 109 was more of a truck than we ever imagined we could afford. It has more ladder reach, more water on wheels and more pumping capacity than any other of the Quints in our area. Our selection began with visiting your website and finding Ladder-1 as a demo unit. Mr. Joe Merrill then met with us and showed off the vehicle to our crews and elected officials. After presenting this unique deal to our township board of trustees and showing them how it will serve the community well into the future, it was a unanimous vote to purchase the truck.

Ladder-1 is not our only HME. In 2001, we purchased an engine from HME which still runs first out on all fires and auto accidents. I must also compliment you on the service you provide to your owners. Anytime we have had a problem with either truck, just a phone call is all it took to remedy the problem.

My thanks to everyone who made this possible. And a special thanks to Joe Merrill. He was great to work with, and got all of our questions answered. The HME investment was a good one for our community. We are also proud to say that HME is built in Michigan! That carries a lot of weight, especially in this economy. When it comes time to look for our next piece of fire apparatus, you can be sure we will look to HME."
