Founded in 1913, HME has had a long and proud history in providing custom truck solutions. Since the early seventies we have been a driving force shaping the fire industry. Our custom fire chassis have been found under the label of global truck manufacturers and smaller apparatus builders.
Change in the fire service during the nineties shaped our future. While manufacturers of bodies became enthralled with the idea of building their own custom chassis and multi national giants began to acquire apparatus builders, we decided it was time to set our own course, a course that we could steer to our own market destiny, hence the evolution of the HME Ahrens-Fox®.
Never settling for second best we embarked in our course to provide a low maintenance, high value apparatus. Stainless steel was selected for the project for its non-corrosive value. Bolted construction of the material as in the aircraft industry only makes sense to provide a low cost assembly technique with high strength and durability. In order to manufacture the product without expensive labor cost the product required the investment in high tech engineering and fabricating equipment. Our engineering staff set out with advanced 3-D modeling software to design and test our apparatus concepts.
As time progressed in the design of the apparatus we found it necessary to have additional space for manufacturing. Doubling the size of our world headquarters in 2001 allowed the much needed modern expansion for manufacturing. Adding a computer controlled laser and bending equipment completed our task.
The result is an apparatus body that has the most advanced design, utilizing premium materials in a low cost manufacturing environment that yields unsurpassed value for the fire industry. With a broad and deep product and system solution offering, HME provides the economy, convenience, and accountability of one source of supply.
